Square, trapezoid, tortoise, and rectangular - the possibilities are endless! Our only advice is to steer clear of narrow frames and frames with heavy design elements. With an oval face shape, feel free to go bold with a funky color, texture or frame shape. This long, rounded face shape allows you to pull off almost any style - especially oversized and wide frames. A face with an oval shape features higher and slightly wider cheekbones that are slightly narrower towards the forehead. You preschool students will have lots of fun learning about patterns and shapes with this kite lesson plan.People with oval faces fit with most frame shapes. Play the same game with pattern blocks or other math manipulatives. To continue working on patterns have the students play the pattern game with the cubes in pairs of two. These kites would make a cute spring bulletin board. Could they arrange the triangles into the bow shape? Did they make a pattern? Remind them that the bows should be arranged into a pattern.Ī quick and easy method for assessing this kite lesson plan is to simply look at the finished kites. Give each table an assortment of different colored triangles and tell them to use them to make the bows on their kite tail. Show them how to draw a line for the kite tail. ![]() Have them decorate their kite and glue it on the paper near the top. Give each student a light blue sheet of construction paper, a white diamond, crayons and glue. Now it is the students turn to make a kite picture. Choose one and show them how to glue the triangles into bows on the poster and make a pattern. Show the the colors you have and let a few students give ideas for the pattern. Tell the class that you want to make a pattern out of the bows for the tail for your kite. After they have had some time to try, show the whole class how to make a bow and let them make one with their triangles. You might remind them how to make a diamond shape with the two triangles first. Give each student two triangles and give them a few minutes to see if they can make a bow out of the two triangle. Tell them that you have some triangle that you want to use to make the bows for tail. Point out the diamond shape of the kite and the empty tail. Do this a few times to review or practice patterns. Use the Unifix cubes to start a pattern, hold it up for the class to see and have the students find the color cube that goes next and hold it up. Give each table a basket of Unifix cubes in different colors. Tell them that they are going to play a quick pattern game. You can try a harder one such as red, blue, blue, red, blue, blue if you think they are ready. Explain that a pattern is something that repeats. Using Unifix cubes make a simple pattern such as red, blue, red, blue. Review patterns if you have taught them before.īegin by asking students if they know what a pattern is. Show the students how you can put two triangles together to make a diamond. Talk about the number of sides and corners. Students should also be familiar with patterns and shapes, specifically diamond and triangle. This can be done a day or two or earlier or during story time the day of the lesson. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Apple mail vs thunderbird![]() ![]() So if you are reading this article and are screaming about how much better Gmail’s web interface is – know that I am not looking at web-based solutions. I want one app to use instead of four web apps. Like I said earlier, I am pulling in iCloud and multiple Google Workspace email accounts into one app, so using webmail isn’t something I want to do. When it comes to my “heavy lifting” type of work, I can get it done much faster on my Mac. On the desktop, we’re moving everything to the web.Īs much as I love iOS, If you told me that I had to pick between the Mac and iOS, I’d choose the Mac. I think a lot of it has to do with iOS, where native apps are the default. I am bringing in multiple accounts into one app (personal iCloud and multiple Google Workspace accounts), but another aspect is that I prefer native apps. In the early days of email usage, I preferred using web-based mail, but as time went on, I preferred app-based email. One of the things about my use of email that is most surprising is that I’ve gone in the reverse direction compared to how technology has moved. Over the years, managing multiple Google accounts has become cumbersome. It’s a much smoother solution than running multiple tabs. It’s a native macOS app for Gmail, and it supports G-Suite as well. If you have a few Gmail accounts, and are happy with the Gmail web interface, check out Boxy. I stuck with it during the disaster that was MobileMe and finally arrived at iCloud.īefore I look at the various email apps for Mac, I want to mention one other app that might appeal to Google Workspace and Gmail users. ![]() I switched to Gmail in 2004 when it first launched, and I finally switched to Mac in 2005 when I got my first Mac (a Powerbook G4). I switched to Mailblocks around 2002 (it was eventually acquired by AOL). I stuck with AOL until I got an account when my parents first got high-speed Internet. I got my first email account in the mid–90s (When it was still $2.95 per hour for AOL). So what’s the best email app for the Mac? Even with the popularity of web-based services like Gmail, many still prefer a desktop app to pull in multiple email addresses, use desktop plugins, and have a more native Mac experience. Signing up for almost any service on the Internet requires an email address, so it’s a universal digital identifier. Signing into iCloud (and email) is one of my first tasks when setting up a new Mac. Despite all the new messaging services, project management tools, and chat-based ecosystems, email remains essential. ![]() ![]() ![]() And so, "it's important to count people properly." Not only students, but also schools, succeed or fail based on the students who show up every day. Mariajose Romero, a Pace University sociologist who has researched attendance for decades, calls it "a piece of information that has tremendous political currency," which only intensified when it became a measure of school accountability. Not just student success, but school success, would be defined in part by this metric: How many kids missed more than 10 percent of days in a school year. Thirty-six states and Washington, D.C., chose chronic absenteeism. It required states to add at least one nonacademic measure of success into their state accountability systems. Responding in part to this research, the federal Every Student Succeeds Act, signed into law in 2015, raised the stakes on attendance. She found that missing more than 10% of school days in a year was an "early warning signal" for students earning low grades and eventually dropping out, and that it affected low-income students disproportionately. It was Chang's research in the mid-2000s that helped lay the groundwork for the current policy focus on chronic absenteeism. It all adds up to "a paradigm shift," says Hedy Chang, who directs Attendance Works, a national and state level initiative that treats attendance as a key lever to student success. So the emerging questions for educators and parents are: What is the best way to measure whether students are participating in learning? And who will be held responsible for a student who doesn't participate? The student? Their caregiver? The school? And where school is being held in-person, strict coronavirus health protocols mean students must now stay home at the slightest sign of illness, or to quarantine in case of a potential exposure. States are having to update their attendance policies to cover the realities of virtual learning. Yet now, like so many other aspects of education, that simple measure - "here" or "absent" - is not so simple anymore. And average daily head count forms the basis of school funding decisions at the federal, state and local level. TSMC and Intel both sniffed around Clay, says McMahon, before choosing other sites. Even before the CHIPS Act was passed last summer, semiconductor manufacturers had begun scouting sites in the US to expand. McMahon decided to go all in, pouring millions into expanding and upgrading the site. But for two decades there had been no takers. Previous county executives had promoted it as the perfect location for a semiconductor fab. ![]() ![]() When Ryan McMahon became county executive of Onondaga County, in 2018, the long-imagined industrial park in Clay was languishing. It’s much more difficult than that.” Risky business “You line up a bunch of factors and, voilà, you have a productive and growing economy. ![]() “We think like we have an economic development sausage machine,” she says. The challenge for Syracuse is that there are no “hard-and-fast recipes” for how to get it right, says Maryann Feldman, a professor of public policy at Arizona State University. What’s more, says Jensen, by offering generous tax breaks to companies, state and local communities can limit their sources of revenues in the coming decades, even as-if all goes well-they deal with booming demand for housing, roads, and schools. Corporate strategies can change, and 20 years is a long time to bet on growing market demand for a specific technology. While the Micron investment will likely bring good jobs and could be a great opportunity for a distressed city, he says, local and state leaders will need to manage multiple risks over the long term. Micron, for one, says it would not be building in the US without the funding it expects from the CHIPS and Science Act, which designated $39 billion for support of domestic semiconductor manufacturing and another $13.2 billion for semiconductor R&D and workforce development. Over the last two years, the US government has allocated hundreds of billions to supporting everything from new chip fabs to a slew of battery manufacturing plants throughout the country. In many ways, the Micron investment is an on-the-ground trial for the recent US embrace of industrial policy-government interventions that favor particular sectors and regions of the country. And the project’s success or failure will be an important indicator of whether the US can leverage investments in high tech to reverse years of soaring geographic inequality and all the social and political unrest that it has brewed. It is, in short, an attempt to turn around a region that has struggled economically for decades. It will also, if all goes according to plan, anchor a new semiconductor manufacturing hub in central New York at a time when the demand for chips, especially the type of memory chips that Micron plans to make in Clay, is expected to explode given the essential role they play in artificial intelligence and other data-driven applications. The Micron investment will flood billions into the local economy, making it possible to finally upgrade the infrastructure, housing, and schools. Without these high-tech jobs and with conventional manufacturing long gone as an economic driver, Rust Belt cities like Detroit, Cleveland, Syracuse, and nearby Rochester now top the list of the country’s poorest cities. The nation’s economy is increasingly driven by high-tech industries, and those jobs and the resulting wealth are largely concentrated in a few cities Boston, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle, and San Diego accounted for more than 90% of US innovation-sector growth from 2005 to 2017, according to a report by the Brookings Institution. Syracuse, of course, is not alone in its postindustrial malaise. ![]() And each of these buildings will be the size of 10 football fields, so a total of 40 football fields worth of clean-room space.” The fabs will create 50,000 jobs in the region over time, including 9,000 at Micron, he has pledged-“so this is really going to be a major transformation for the community.” And on this April day, standing under the tent, CEO Sanjay Mehrotra conjures a vision for what the $100 billion investment will mean: “Imagine this site, which has nothing on it today, will have four major buildings 20 years from now. Micron, a maker of memory chips based in Boise, Idaho, announced last fall that it plans to build up to four of these fabs, each costing roughly $25 billion, at the Clay site over the next 20 years. It all begins with an astonishingly expensive and complex kind of factory called a chip fab. Now Syracuse is about to become an economic test of whether, over the next several decades, the aggressive government policies-and the massive corporate investments they spur-can both boost the country’s manufacturing prowess and revitalize regions like upstate New York. ![]() 12/31/2023 0 Comments Patrick cudahy black forest bacon![]() ![]() ![]() The Patrick Cudahy Pack House wis open at Lambeau Field on game days and can be found on the lower concourse outside section 124. With Java 9, the Applet API became deprecated (see JEP 289) and with Java 17, the API became marked for removal, meaning it will certainly be removed on a future release of Java.Īnother significant change is the modularization of Java, also started with the Java 9 release (see JSR 376). The need for a general purpose Java Runtime Environments pre-installed on computers became less significant overtime. With the advent of modern web applications and browsers, both Applets and Java Web Start technologies became deprecated, and browsers no longer support Java plugins. Traditionally, Oracle/Sun Microsystems would produce Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installers which would contain solely the Java Virtual Machine, the Java APIs, and OS and browser specific integrations, aimed at enabling computers for running Java applications downloaded from the Internet, or for running Applets and Java Web Start applications through the browser. This method of Java deployment ensures the Java runtime only contains the parts of the Java platform that are truly needed by applications, therefore increasing security, reducing deployment size, and enhancing performance, for both Cloud and server based Java applications as well as desktop/GUI applications. Microsoft acknowledges and supports the adoption of custom Java runtimes crafted for specific application needs rather the use of general purpose Java runtimes. ![]() 12/30/2023 0 Comments Blender 2.8 code quest![]() ![]() With 1000 rockets sold we can launch the Code Quest!ĭiscount valid until 1st March!
